The wait is almost over, “My Roommate is a Gumiho” premieres on May 26th and I, like many other Jang Ki Yong fans, am beyond excited. The K-drama tells the story of a 999-year-old gumiho (mythical nine-tailed fox) named Shin Woo Yeo and a female university student named Lee Dam who get linked to each other when Lee Dam accidentally swallows the Shin Woo Yeo’s fox orb.

Here are four reasons you need to tune into “My Roommate is a Gumiho.”

1. Adapted from a popular webtoon

The series is actually based on the ongoing webtoon “My Roommate is a Gumiho” (also known as “A Falling Cohabitation” and “Living Together”) launched in April 2019 by Na. It is also the first joint produced project between China’s iQIYI and South Korea’s Studio Dragon.

2. All-Star Production Team

This upcoming drama was written by Baek Sun Woo and Choi Bo Rim, who wrote the super popular webtoon-turned-drama “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim.” It is directed by Park Joo Hwa who produced hit shows like “ Because This is My First Love,” “Bring It On, Ghost” and “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim” as well as reunites Jang Ki Yong with director Nam Sung Woo who worked together on “Kill It.”

3. A comedic OTP romance

From promo images (like the one above) to the fun teaser videos, “My Roommate is a Gumiho” offers some much-needed comedic relief. Our OTP, played by Hyeri and Jang Ki Yong, complement each other well in terms of visuals and acting experience. Having previously worked together, these two have a natural chemistry that will make it fun to watch them interact onscreen and anticipate how they go from frenemies to something more.

4. Stellar supporting cast

The series also stars the talented Kang Han Na as Yang Hye Sun, a former gumiho and friend of Shin Woo Yeo. You may have seen her in “Start-Up” (2020) with Suzy. You'll also remember her as the first love of the male lead in “Familiar Wife” (2018). She was also in “Just Between Lovers” (2017) and “Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo” (2016).

There's Kim Do Wan, whom you'll probably recognize from “Start-Up” (2020). He plays Do Jae Jin, a human who falls in love with Yang Hye Sun. Lastly to round out this stellar support cast is Bae In Hyuk as Gye Sun Woo, a social media star on campus who gets rejected by Lee Dam. He was also in “The Spy Who Loved Me” (2020), “Kiss Goblin” (2020), and “XX” (2020).

“My Roommate is a Gumiho” begins airing on iQIYI on May 26, 2021. Will you be watching?
