3 life lessons we learned from "navillera"

The heartwarming and sentimental K-drama, “Navillera” recently wrapped on tvN and to say we aren’t emotional about it’s ending is an understatement.

Based on a popular webtoon of the same name, “Navillera” tells the story of Deok Chul (Park In Hwan), a man who begins ballet at the age of 70, and Chae Rok (Song Kang), a 23-year-old ballerino who gets lost while chasing his dreams.

Check out the three life lessons we learned from the emotional slice of life drama below.

1. Only you know what makes you happiest

Navillera elegantly illustrates the idea that life comes around once, or in simpler terms, “you only live once.” Unfortunately, that life isn’t always the happiest. So what makes you happy? While that question is probably the hardest one to answer, it’s also the most meaningful because only you know what makes you happiest. As Chae Rok once said in the drama, “find what you love and go for it.”

2. Face your problems head on

Nothing is off limits in this slice of life style drama and why should it be? That’s not reality. Throughout the show the characters are presented with a variety of problems that could easily be handled in a day if given the proper chance. From dealing with a shady boss who promises to trade a good evaluation for completing work outside the job description or bullying an innocent bystander because the real culprit is unavailable one main lesson is very apparent -- face your problems head on. When we face your problems head on it not only gives us the opportunity to grow but also changes the way we see the world.

3. It's never too late

As previously stated, Navillera is the story of a 70 year old retired mailman chasing his dream of doing ballet. Due to his age, physique and mental acuity he faced many obstacles, but still managed to give it his all. This serves as a great reminder that it doesn’t matter if you are 23, 70 or somewhere in between it’s never too late to try something you have always wanted to do. Not only is this the biggest life lesson for all of us, but also the main arch of the drama.

All episodes of Navillera are now available on Netflix.
