The group is all set to make their highly-anticipated comeback with the release of their seventh album on “Don’t Call Me,” containing nine songs in a variety of genres. To say fans, aka Shawols, are excited is an understatement. SHINee’s last album, “The Story of Light” was released in 2018 before the group went on an extended hiatus as Onew, Key, and Minho set out to complete their mandatory military service, while Taemin released solo music and joined K-Pop supergroup SuperM. So let me say it again.
Here are 4 things we're looking forward to ahead of their new album dropping on February 22nd.
1. The theme
Since the first teaser image dropped with the phrase “Any Resemblance To Actual Person Or Event Is Purely Coincidental,” fans have been eager for more, to say the least. What I originally thought was a SHINee style heist concept, is actually one with multiple realities and versions of SHINee.
2. The creative visuals
True to their signature style, the teaser images show hints of each member’s individual style complimented with bright colors, unusual accessories, and fun hairstyles. It not only accentuates their youthfulness but also plays up their maturity both as artists and as individuals.
3. The mood sampler
SHINee is known for its harmonic and fresh new sounds that range from bubbly electro-pop and sophisticated funk to lush ballads and more. What I expected from the mood sampler was a compilation of the mood or sounds of the album showcased in 10-15 second clips from each song. What fans got was a brief look into the mood SHINee will be illustrating throughout the album as it directly relates to the theme. It also gives further confirmation to the age-old assumption that Taemin isn’t afraid of anything.
4. The launch of "SHINee Inc."
Who remembers when SHINee’s kitchen was ‘on fire’ and Taemin kept playing video games in the next room? SHINee has always been masters when it comes to reality tv and their new variety show “SHINee Inc.” is sure to be no different. “SHINee Inc.” is set to premiere on February 24th and includes never-before-seen footage of the group, exciting performances of their new songs, planning for the new album, and more.
